Beru products and company history

The first Beru Spark Plug manufacturing facility was formed in 1912 by Julius Behr and Albert Ruprecht, hence the name BERU. It was not until 1929 that BERU developed the first Glow Plugs to facilitate cold starting of the first diesel engines. BERU were, and continue to be, world leaders in Glow Plug manufacture and technology with an estimated worldwide Glow Plug market share of 40%.

The main BERU production facility at Ludwigsburg, Germany.

 BERU factory

Though less well known than some manufacturers in the aftermarket parts sector, BERU supply almost all major vehicle manufacturers with a variety of OE electrical and ignition components.

All BERU manufacturing facilities operate to ISO Quality standards DIN EN ISO 9001 and ISO TS 16949, you can be assured that any BERU aftermarket products you buy are quality controlled to a high standard. Main glow plug production is in Germany with an additional manufacturing facility in Ireland.

Relatively recent patented innovations in Glow Plug technology from BERU include self controlling types, instant start system, extreme heat resistant ceramic Glow Plugs and the latest development, Pressure Sensor Glow Plugs (PSG). PSG’s are a major innovation in reduction of emissions for diesel engines. BERU also markets a number of flame starting products for commercial vehicle applications and some special electrodes and flame rods for bespoke applications.

In 2012 BERU celebrated it’s centenary, during the same year the ownership of BERU was purchased from the existing owners, Borg Warner Inc, by the global motor parts corporation Federal Mogul. Federal Mogul (aka F-M Motorparts) is now the sole distributor of all BERU OE diesel and ignition components. Federal Mogul own many other well known brands such as Champion, Ferodo etc.

We are pleased to be able to offer the entire BERU Glow Plug products range for retail sale. Some parts are kept in stock at Sparkplugs Ltd though due to the diversity of the product range it is often necessary to order stock in for customers, this usually takes 1 – 2 working days. More unusual parts may require a 10 day backorder from BERU in Germany.

We welcome trade enquiries for BERU products in larger quantities. We also appreciate that it can be difficult to source BERU products in some countries which we do not normally ship to (e.g. US/Canada), please email your requirements in this case and we will do what we can to help.
